His life finally had a turning point. The whole point of the movie is that no matter how bad it is, you just roll with it. There's nothing else you can do but survive and hope things will turn around, and sometimes they do.
The other thing that inspired me is the value of one human person that was portrayed in the movie. Here you have this guy who is totally crazy,...he can barely dress himself and you can hardly understand what he's saying, and yet when he walks into this little cafe and starts playing the piano he totally blows everyone's minds, and he's also so lovable. So you can see how incredibly valuable he is as a human being, just as we all are, even though most people on first glance would laugh him off.

Wow. I've heard this is good but I haven't seen it yet. I'm glad to know that watching the sad parts hopefully won't make me totally depressed....as human suffering always does to me in movies.
And it will be interesting to see Geoffrey Rush in such a unique role. A non bad-guy role.
It's been a while since I saw Shine. I liked it. There are some disturbing and sad parts in this movie but there are also some nice moments. I especially enjoyed the flight of the bumble bee scene in the bar when he gets everyone's attention. I also like how it made Rachmaninov's Rach 5 out to be the Mount Everest of any music pieced ever composed, but what do I know I only took piano for 6 weeks. I think Geoffrey Rush did an amazing job as usual, but his defining role for me will always be Casinova Frankenstein. 7.1 Stars of 10.
